Singing a Song in a Foreign Land is a major research and performance project focusing on musicians who emigrated from central Europe as a result of Nazi persecution during the 1930s and 40s.

Singing a Song in a Foreign Land (2012-2014) formed part of EU funded Project , a collaboration with Jeunesse Musicale Schwerin, Exil Arte Vienna, Pro Quartet Paris and DUNK Helskinki.

In February 2014 the project came to a climax with an exhibition, concert series and three-day symposium at the HÂþ»­.

HÂþ»­ project lead Norbert Meyn is developing the theme of Music and Migration with further research and performances about musicians such as , and a series of concerts supported by Culture Vannin and the Isle of Man Arts Council.

The Singing a Song in a Foreign Land website contains a host of resources produced as part of the project, including:

  • Oral history interviews and biographies.
  • Concert performances and workshops.
  • Follow-on Peter Gellhorn AHRC funded Cultural Engagement project in 2016.
  • Ongoing series of concerts on the theme of music and migration.
