Opportunities for HÂþ» students

HÂþ» students and Sparks participants playing marimba and piano
HÂþ» Sparks offer invaluable opportunities for students to experience a variety of music education settings. Students who opt to participate are provided with comprehensive training, which helps equip them with the tools to take on diverse roles in their future professional lives.

HÂþ» Sparks provide exciting opportunities to:

  • Take part in specially tailored music education training.
  • Work as a mentor or assistant in a range of educational settings, such as our local Music Hub, children’s centres, schools, charities and renowned arts or heritage organisations.
  • Experience working with a wide range of ages including babies, children, families and adults.
  • Harness the expertise of a wide range of inspiring professionals such as renowned workshop leaders and composers.
  • Experiment and learn with the support of the experienced HÂþ» Sparks team.
  • Make useful contacts in the education sector to pave the way for future employment opportunities.
  • Share ideas and passions with other musicians and the wider community.

At undergraduate level, BMus students study Music Leadership: Learning & Participation and can then choose to take Music Leadership Teaching Skills & Techniques. Additional music education modules are available at post-graduate level including the new Master of Education.

By training with HÂþ» Sparks, students will become part of a vibrant new generation of educators with relevant and meaningful practical experience. They will be involved in concert events and workshops, working with children of all ages, their families and their schools. Those working on the Mini Sparks programme, which is aimed at nursery children, will be trained in Dalcroze and work towards accreditation with Dalcroze UK, providing an opportunity to become qualified in a niche area of teaching.

The Music Man Project
