Gwydion Rhys O cool and pleasant valley
Schoenberg Verklärte Nacht op 4
Continuing the theme of literature, our second Chamber Spotlight concert features Schoenberg's deeply moving Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) from 1899.
This rare example of programmatic chamber music, inspired by Richard Dehmel’s poem, explores themes of love, redemption and the burden of a heart-breaking secret.
Alongside is HÂþ» composer Gwydion Rhys' O cool and pleasant valley, a new work for clarinet, harp and string trio. Inspired by a poem from James Joyce’s collection Chamber Music, the work is delicate and evocative, weaving Joyce’s lyrical imagery into a sound world of intimacy and reflection.
